Jenny Richardson
I picked up a camera for the first time at thirteen, during an activity week at school — and never really put it down. After school, I studied Art & Design at college, where I fell in love with film photography and the slow magic of the darkroom. I later went on to study Design Crafts for the Entertainment Industry at university, and years after that, trained as a teacher, gaining my PGCE — an experience that's shaped how I work with people ever since. Somewhere along the way I taught myself photography digitally, starting with photos of my own daughter as a baby, then family shoots, engagements, and weddings.
But I've always been a maker at heart — I paint, I create silver jewellery, and for years I airbrushed and custom-painted motorbike helmets and bikes for Paint My Ride, while also helping to facilitate custom paint courses at the Auto Paint Training Centre.
My photography has been published in 100% Biker magazine, and I was selected as one of the UK's top 100 automotive photographers in the Auto Photo Awards, with my work exhibited at Silverstone.
Because I've spent so much of my own life pouring heart into things I've made, I know how hard it is to show that passion to someone else — a photo of the object rarely tells the whole story. What I love most is photographing the person behind the work: the entrepreneur, the maker, the person and the passion they've poured everything into — bringing out the heart and soul in what they've built, not just the finished thing itself.
I'm based near Richmond, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales — laid-back, down to earth, and happiest when I've helped someone relax, smile, and see themselves the way I see them.
